There are 152 universities in Turkey with 100 public or state-owned while 52 universities are privately-owned. Programs leading to attainment of an undergraduate degree usually take four years. After a four-year faculty, one can go further for his/her Master’s Degree which lasts for two years with thesis and non-thesis options. Access to doctoral programs requires a master’s degree and has duration of minimum four years with a doctoral thesis at the end. The graduates of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry can directly apply to PhD/Doctorate programs. An academic year in Turkey has two semesters, one beginning in September and the other in August, wıth only one intake in September.
International Student Eligibility
International candidates who are currently a senior in a high school or have already earned a high school diploma equivalent to Turkish high school diploma and who satisfy the application criteria stated below may apply for undergraduate programs in Turkey. (The Kenyan Education System has been approved by Turkish Higher Education Board, and recognizes K.C.S.E and IGCSE certificates).
There is only one university intake in Turkey beginning in September each year. Therefore, application process for Turkish Universities generally start in May, though it may vary slightly from one university to another.
In Order to study in Turkey, you need to obtain:
• 8-4-4 system: KCSE Certificate (C+ or above)
Note: For Medicine, B+ and above
• GCE system: A-Level Certificate
Note: O-Level certificate with the GCE System does not meet the requirements.
